Winter/Indoor

Winter Indoor Field Hockey in Richmond, VA

Overview

Every winter, Relentless Field Hockey Club runs a full indoor field hockey season for athletes from U6 through U19 — from first-touch beginner sessions to national-qualifier travel teams to out-of-state recruiting showcases. Indoor season typically runs from early November through mid-to-late February, with each program's exact start and end date depending on its competitive track.

Why indoor? The faster indoor surface sharpens technical skill and ball control while building the agility and game speed that carry over to outdoor field hockey. It's one of the best ways for a Richmond-area athlete to keep developing — and stay sharp — through the offseason.

  • Winter Spark (K-2nd) — beginner intro sessions, no competition
  • Campfire Indoor (2nd–6th grade) — weekly rec league
  • Ignite Indoor (U12) — travel teams preparing for the National Indoor Tournament
  • Blaze Indoor (U14–U19) — our elite, national-competition track
  • Torch Indoor (U14–U19) — our developmental-competitive track
  • Winter Escape (U16–U19) — recruiting showcase in Sanford, FL
  • Sunshine Showcase (U14) — recruiting showcase in Orlando, FL

Evaluations

Indoor travel teams (Ignite, Blaze, and Torch) are evaluation-based. Evaluations are typically held in September or October each year, with make-up dates offered for athletes who can't attend the primary session. Exact dates, times, and locations are announced and posted to registration each fall — check current evaluation dates and register on PlayMetrics.

At U14, U16, and U19, athletes are evaluated for one of two pathways:

  • Blaze — our elite track, with national-qualifier training and a full tournament schedule
  • Torch — our developmental-competitive track, with consistent training and competitive opportunities to keep leveling up

At U12, we offer a single track: Ignite, our advancement program built to develop skills and game readiness for our youngest travel-age athletes.
