Ignite Travel is Relentless Field Hockey Club's U12 travel field hockey program in Richmond, VA. Built for U10 and U12 players who are ready to take their game further, Ignite Travel offers year-round training, a regional and national tournament schedule, and coaching that's focused on building the technical and competitive foundation that the rest of the Relentless pathway is built on.

What Ignite Travel Is

Ignite Travel is the first step into competitive club field hockey at Relentless. It's a real travel program — consistent training, genuine competition, and coaching that pushes athletes to develop — calibrated for junior players who are still building their game.

Every Ignite Training session is structured around high-repetition technical skill work, small-sided game application, and an introduction to the tactical concepts athletes will carry with them as they grow. The goal isn't just to develop field hockey players. It's to build athletes who arrive at U14 with strong habits, a competitive identity, and a genuine love for the sport.

Seasons

Fall

One weeknight practice and four weekend 7v7 tournaments — split between Richmond and Virginia Beach — give athletes consistent game reps in a competitive but developmental environment. Coaching in the fall emphasizes the technical habits and team identity that will carry into the more intensive indoor season.

Winter

Winter is the most competition-dense season for Ignite Travel athletes. Two practices per week and four tournaments build competitive experience steadily across the block. The season closes with the National Indoor Tournament (NIT) — a three-day national event in Pennsylvania that gives junior athletes a meaningful stage and a chance to compete against clubs from across the country. Playing on a hard court accelerates technical development, with tighter spaces generating more ball touches and faster decision-making per session.

Two weeknight practices and four regional 7v7 tournaments give athletes the most game reps of any season — and the outdoor format brings the outdoor game back into focus after winter indoors. Spring is where athletes apply everything built across fall and winter, and typically where the most visible development shows up.

Summer

Summer programming for Ignite Travel includes training sessions, clinics, and the Summer Bash at the Beach 7v7 event. Summer is also the most accessible entry point for athletes new to the program — a lower-commitment way to experience Ignite Travel ahead of fall registration.

The Pathway Forward

Ignite Travel is the first step in the full Relentless competitive pathway. Athletes who develop through the program and are ready for the next level move into Torch or Blaze at U14 — the club's developmental and elite travel programs for older athletes. Coaching staff actively track athlete development across the season and work with club leadership to identify athletes who are ready to make that move.
